Swamp Head Brewery, Hell’s Bay Boatworks and CCA Florida completed the first of five Florida Trash Tour events on Saturday in Cedar Key! Over 100 volunteers helped clean up the coastal waters with many traveling from long distances like Orlando, Tampa, Gainesville, and even as far away as Louisiana! We were humbled to see so many families, individuals, and groups cleaning up trash by boat, airboat, kayak, canoe, on foot, by car, and even on bikes. The U.S. Coast Guard sent 9 of their finest men and women from Yankeetown to assist. NOAA’s Navigational Manager, Tim Osborn, made the trip all the way from Louisiana to help, as did Victor Diog from the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service. Mike and Mendy Allen from the University of Florida IFAS Nature Coast Biological Station also helped and brought some awesome volunteers.

Two industrial-sized dumpsters were filled up by 1pm and all recyclable items were separated out. The cleanup was followed by a free lunch and prizes at the Cedar Cove Hotel. All of our volunteers received complimentary food and beverages, Swamp Head Brewery provided some incredible craft beer while Steamers fed us some delicious shrimp skewers, hamburgers and hotdogs. Many thanks to Academy Sports + Outdoors, Drummond Community Bank, Waste Pro, Hydroflask, Boxed Water and the Costa Kick Plastic campaign for sponsoring the Trash Tour! A huge thank you also goes out to Gina and Peter at the Cedar Cove Hotel for accommodating the event and for their outstanding hospitality, plus Capt. Danny Allen of Southern Salt Charters for being passionate about bringing the first Trash Tour to Cedar Key.
